Swank Couple: Class of 1976

It was Fall of 1975, in ACapella class, I had a crush on a boy with beautiful blue eyes who didn’t notice me. One day in November I was pulling my music down and “accidentally” dropped my music folder on his head. He then noticed me! We started talking and he asked me out on a date. It was November 15, with tennis (I didn’t know how to play and didn’t know he was on the tennis team), bowling and table shuffle board at his house. We then finished the date at The Golden Dipper on Broadway, eating sundaes.

We continued to date and he asked me to go steady on November 30 (which we recognize as our true anniversary). We were in the Spring musical together, he was Tony and I was part of the Puerto Rican dress shop chorus. We went to Prom (I bought my GunnySax prom dress at Sweet Briars on Broadway. Ron looked so handsome in his Royal blued crushed velvet tux. Life continued on to graduation, and then Jr. College. We married on August 25, 1979. We both worked, Ron at Scottsbluff National Bank and I at Western National Bank. We both joined local Barbershop chorus and sang in our church choir and music ministry together. Our son, Chuck was born in1982, our daughter, Andrea, was born in 1985. Ron and I continued to sing in our choruses and barbershop quartets and church and our son got into music in high school and he and best friend, James started “Barb and the Barbettes” James sang in Choralaires and Chuck played string bass. Chuck ended up in Arizona teaching at the Condervotory of Recording Arts and Sciences. Our daughter, Andrea, was in the school musicals and had the lead role in the musical, “Honk”her senior year. She went on with musical scholarships to Chafron Stste, WNCC and University of Nebraska Omaha. She pursued a career in the Air Force and then after her first marriage she ended finished her music degree in Chadron State College and has taught choral music at St. Agnes and Geting High Svhool. Ron had his Bachelors degree in Business, I recieved my Bachelors degree in nursing. We still continued to sing and later on, sang in choruses with minor roles at Theatre West. We were able to sing with Andrea in Soundbof Music. Ron and I enjoyed karaoke but really enjoyed our lead roles in South Pacific. We are retired now and music continues to play an important role in our lives. The deep friendships we shared in ACapella continue today. We owe a lot to Scottsbluff High School for our meeting and future married life. We have 3 generations that were Bearcats and now our grandson is a Bearcat in Middle School, so it continues.
